HOUSTON – Halloween in Houston looks like it could be a wet one, well, at least early on.
The good news right now is it looks like most of the wet weather should be moving out of most of the area in time for trick-or-treating.

Here is how it looks.
Today and Wednesday
We are already seeing changes Tuesday in the form of stronger southerly winds and more cloud cover.
Monday evening, we actually had a couple of sea breeze showers develop across portions of Fort Bend and western Harris County and that could be the case again today. We aren’t expecting anything heavy from these, but a few areas could get a little wet.
Wednesday looks to be similar with cloud cover continuing to increase and some spotty showers across the area. Thursday is when our rain chances really ramp up ahead of a cold front.
Halloween rain
We could see some showers ahead of the cold front starting Thursday morning. You can see the heavier storms on this computer model image north of the Houston area. This is where the cold front should be situated around 6 a.m. Thursday morning.
By midday Thursday, the front should be approaching the immediate Houston area, accompanied by a line or broken line of showers and thunderstorms.
You can see our computer models really want to bring this line together better once it gets just south of Houston and closer to the coast. We could see some very heavy rainfall in some of these storms. The severe threat looks to be very low right now, but there is an outside chance of some gusty winds and perhaps some hail.
By 5 p.m., the models want to push a lot of the storms off to the east and south of the Houston area. Storms should all clear the coast by around 8 p.m. Thursday.
So how much rain will we get?
The data that has come in suggests parts of the area could see a healthy amount of rain, which is good considering Houston has not seen any measurable rainfall at the official weather station located at Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Some areas, especially to the north and east of the immediate Houston area could see up to two inches of rain. Houston may also get away with not having the driest October on record if we get any measurable rainfall at the IAH weather station before the end of Thursday evening.
What about trick-or-treating?
I do have good news for children and their families who want to go trick-or-treating on Halloween.
While early on in the afternoon looks wet, the rain should be moving out of most of the area by the time trick-or-treating should be going on.
The streets could still be damp and a few areas in Southeast Texas could still have some showers, but right now based on the data we have, most of the area should be good to go.
