18-wheeler slams into concrete barrier on Southwest Fwy; fuel spills on road, person hospitalized

Traffic has been stifled and multiple lanes have been closed on the Southwest Fwy Wednesday morning after a big rig crashed into a median, causing a fuel spill and a person to be hospitalized. Two other vehicles were also involved in the wreck.

The wreck occurred just after 9:30 a.m. on IH-69 Southwest Northbound at Weslayan St.

First responders are at the scene, and the left shoulder lane, left lane and center lane are closed.

Firetrucks and police cruisers are blocking off the halted lanes, and multiple people are standing around the impaired truck.

In the two hours following the wreck, the truck has still not been removed from the freeway.

According to a source with Houston Police Department, gasoline spilled on the road, and specialized vehicles and officials in hazmat suits were brought out to pour sand on the impacted areas.
