Houston, it will no longer be the driest October on record

HOUSTON – Houston, October 2024 will not go down as the driest October on record for the city.

Before today, there had only been a trace of rainfall at Bush Intercontinental Airport, the location of the weather station that calculates Houston’s records.

So far Wednesday, there has been at least a quarter inch of rain at IAH, or 0.25 inches.

Once this goes official, we won’t even be in the top 10 driest Octobers on record for the city.

Here are the top 10 driest Octobers on record for Houston, according to the National Weather Service:

1934 - Trace

1963 - 0.01

1944 - 0.01

2010 - 0.02

1952 - 0.02

1889 - 0.03

1978 - 0.05

1948 - 0.09

2016 - 0.14

1987 - 0.17

With more rain forecasted on Thursday, we expect this number to be even higher by the end of the month, which is tomorrow.

More storms are expected on Halloween as a cold front moves into Southeast Texas.
