East Freeway closed for hours after motorcyclist hit by car, run over by 18-wheeler

HOUSTON – Authorities are looking into what caused a motorcyclist’s death overnight Friday on the East Freeway.

It happened around 12:45 a.m. when investigators said they shut down most of the freeway on Wayside. Preliminary details shared by Houston police are the rider was heading westbound on the East Freeway at Kress Street when they were hit by a car.

Police said the motorcyclist fell off their bike shortly after the crash and then run over by an 18-wheeler, killing them.

The main lanes of East Freeway were shut down for hours while police surveyed the crime scene and crews cleaned up the wreckage.

The driver from the initial crash was taken to the hospital in unknown condition, but as of this writing, no word was given on any other drivers. Police have not shared any additional information either about charges getting filed, but their investigation continues.
