It happened around 9:30 p.m. when Houston police said they were called to a single-vehicle crash and responding officers had to extricate two patients trapped inside the car.
Based on preliminary evidence, Sgt. R. Dallas with HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division, said it appears the unidentified man (the driver) lost control of his car and hit a light pole.
Emergency responders said the driver died from his injuries at the hospital, while at last check, the passenger remained in stable condition at a trauma center.
Sgt. Dallas also said the roads were wet around the time the crash happened, but it’s unclear if alcohol or speed might have also played a role.

Additionally, the Sergeant believes the individuals in the crash may have been from out of town.
“They might be from out of state, so maybe they weren’t familiar with the area and they didn’t realize that was a ‘turn lane only’ that they were in and tried to make an evasive action and lost control of that vehicle,” she explained.
Due to the crash, the feeder’s southbound and Bellaire’s westbound lanes were closed but have reopened since then.
