On Oct. 24, officers interviewed the mother of the child, who shared that she had left her daughter with 21-year-old Stubblefield in August.

According to court documents, the mother had been staying at Stubblefield’s home, but they don’t say how the two knew each other or what their relationship was. The mother told investigators Stubblefield ordered her to leave his home and she felt forced to leave her daughter with him because she was then without a home and had no place to go for shelter.
Brown told investigators she last received a message from Stubblefield on Oct. 14, mentioning the child had spilled hot cocoa in her lap, but that he didn’t give any more information about the little girl’s condition.
It was Stubblefield’s sister who took the 4-year-old to get medical care after visiting her brother’s home on Oct. 15 to pick up her mail.
Stubblefield appeared distressed and mentioned the child was staying with another relative. When his sister arrived at the relative’s residence, she found the little girl severely malnourished and showing visible injuries.
The sister took the child to HCA Northwest Healthcare, where medical staff documented her condition and began treatment.
According to court documents, Dr. Michelle Ruda from Child Protective Services reported severe injuries to the child’s body, including burns, fractures, and signs of blunt force trauma.
Additional medical evaluations by Dr. Melicor at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital indicated malnourishment and dehydration consistent with prolonged neglect. These findings, combined with witness statements and law enforcement records, led authorities to charge Stubblefield with serious bodily injury to a child.
During his arrest, officers say they found narcotics and a loaded firearm in Stubblefield’s possession. He is in the Harris County Jail with a bond set at $250,000.
