According to Lt. Larry Crowson with HPD, a person was driving northbound and did not see the man before hitting him. Crowson said the area has very poor lighting.

Police said the man attempted to cross the northbound lanes of the street, not in a crosswalk, and was struck by an orange Kia Rio.

The 68-year-old driver and passenger remained at the scene. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was determined the driver was not to be impaired. The driver was questioned and later released.

KPRC 2′s Rilwan Balogun was told the victim lived at Golden Bamboo Village III, which is right by where he was hit.

One of the residents said the man regularly walks to the Walgreens on the corner to get his medicine. He believes that’s what he was doing the night he was killed.

The investigation is continuing.
