HOUSTON, Texas – The beloved former Houston anchor and reporter Chauncy Glover will be laid to rest Saturday after he unexpectedly died on Nov. 5.
Glover’s family announced in a statement to KCAL in Los Angeles, where the 39-year-old had co-anchored the 5, 8, 10 and 11 p.m. news since October 2023, after leaving KTRK in Houston:

“We, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy’s beloved family, are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy. He was more than a son and brother — he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community,” the family wrote, in part, in their statement.
The cause of death had not been made public as of Friday.
In one of his final social media posts, Glover celebrated one year in LA, showcasing some of his proudest moments at KCAL. His caption read, “Don’t watch the clock; do what it does. Keep going! My first year in LA on KCALNEWS CBSLA in the books! God is good!”
Before taking over the evening news desk in Los Angeles, Chauncy was an anchor and reporter at KTRK in Houston for eight years, During his tenure in Houston, he became a pillar to the community.
Through the Chauncy Glover Project, a mentorship program he founded to support and uplift young men, Chauncy often said he was driven by a powerful moment after witnessing the loss of a teenager on the streets of Detroit. From then on, Chauncy made it his mission to help young men of color achieve success, sending over 300 mentees to college and transforming countless lives. His work was recognized nationally, including by President Barack Obama and the My Brother’s Keeper initiative.
Beyond his contributions to journalism and mentorship, Chauncy was a gifted performer, having sung at the funeral of Rosa Parks, and a motivational speaker who inspired audiences across the nation. He was also an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, embodying his motto, “Fear stops where faith begins.”
“While we grieve this profound loss, we are comforted by the outpouring of love and memories shared by those who knew Chauncy as the passionate, gifted soul he was. We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn and honor his incredible legacy. He was taken from us far too soon, but his impact will be felt forever,” the family’s statement continued.
On Saturday, Glover will be laid to rest in his home state of Alabama at Lindsay Lane Baptist Church, 1300 Lindsay Lane S., Athens, Alabama 35810. KPRC 2 will livestream the service beginning at noon.
The family is also planning to host a Houston celebration of life for Glover on Saturday, Nov. 23. The location and time has not yet been released.
