A singer from Porter who gained fame from his appearances on “American Idol” and “The Voice” is recovering after being shot in the stomach.

Sundance Head—whose real name is Jason Head—was taken to a hospital by Life Flight after suffering a gunshot wound in his stomach area. He was scheduled to be taken in for immediate surgery upon landing, but doctors determined that the bullet did not need to be removed, as reported by Misty Head, his wife, on Facebook.

“I’m sure she said why [the bullet wasn’t being removed], but my head is in a fog right now. Him being on the bigger side was a good thing. Bullet is in his fatty tissue,” the post read.

Misty added that the bullet entered above his naval and lodged into his abdominal wall, which saved him from injuries to his vital organs.

She also thanked fans and supporters for prayers during the terrifying experience.

Trey Newman, Sundance Head’s agent, provided KPRC 2 with the following statement surrounding the circumstances of the injury:

Sundance Head is recovering from a gunshot wound to the stomach/navel area in a Tyler, TX hospital after being airlifted from his ranch while hunting.  The bullet is lodged in a fatty area of the stomach, and no surgery is scheduled at this time. He is stable, and we are waiting on further details of this accident.  At this time, we don’t have info on exactly how it happened but are 100% positive it was not self-inflicted. The family is asking that everyone keep Sundance in their prayers.

The Porter native was a semi-finalist on the sixth season of American Idol in 2007. He went on to win Season 11 of The Voice in 2016, as a member of Team Blake Shelton.
