“Mount Carmel Academy’s Administration and Board announced that their school would be closed at the end of this calendar year due to financial reasons,” the statement HISD sent to KPRC 2 read. “Since Mount Carmel Academy is an external charter partner to Houston ISD with an independent Board, all inquiries about the announced closure should be directed to Mount Carmel Academy’s Board and Administration.”

Houston ISD is working closely with Mount Carmel Academy families to ensure a smooth transition for students and staff. HISD is providing information about nearby district schools and assisting families with the transfer process.

HISD’s Human Resources department is also supporting Mount Carmel staff by sharing job opportunities within the district.

“We are excited to welcome Mount Carmel Academy’s students and staff to our schools if they choose to join us,” Houston ISD said in a statement.
