Houston police chase ends with patrol car crash after officer dragged by fleeing suspect

Two officers are recovering after a police chase early Friday morning, during which a fleeing suspect briefly dragged one officer before their patrol car crashed into a tree.

The incident began just before 1 a.m. on Woodland Park Drive near Richmond when officers attempted to pull over a driver who ran a red light.

Police say they smelled marijuana and tried to remove the driver from the vehicle, but he jumped back in and attempted to flee.

One of the officers became stuck in the car door and was dragged a short distance before falling out.

The officer re-entered the patrol car, and a chase ensued.

At some point during the pursuit, the patrol vehicle crashed into a tree.

Despite the crash, the officers continued their pursuit and located the suspect at his nearby apartment complex.

The driver was taken into custody and is now facing charges of evading arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer.

Both officers are expected to recover from their injuries. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
