Man found dead after house fire on Houston’s south side

A man has died after a house fire late Monday night on Houston’s south side, according to the Houston Fire Department.

HFD responded to reports of a fire at the 5800 block of Doulton Drive near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 10:10 p.m.

Fire crews arrived on the scene within three minutes, receiving reports from neighbors that a resident was possibly trapped inside.

They located an unresponsive man in a bedroom where the fire is believed to have started.

The fire was extinguished within minutes, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the victim has not been officially confirmed. The HFD Arson Division and the Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

With cooler weather approaching, HFD is reminding residents to practice fire safety, particularly with space heaters.

Officials recommend keeping space heaters at least three feet away from bedding, furniture, or any items that could catch fire.
