Man’s charges upgraded after robbery victim dies weeks later

A man is now facing capital murder charges after a rideshare robbery in September turned deadly.

A rideshare dropped off 23-year-old Anwar Jackson at his home on Jasper Ridge in North Harris County on September 27.

Deputies say as he got out of the car, he was confronted by several people who robbed him at gunpoint. During the attack, Anwar was shot in the stomach.

He was rushed to the hospital and fought to recover for nearly two months, but on November 24, he passed away from complications caused by the shooting.

Investigators identified 31-year-old Andre Jackson as a suspect in the case and arrested him on November 26. He was originally charged with aggravated robbery, but after Anwar’s death, those charges were upgraded to capital murder.

Jackson is now in the Harris County Jail, and the investigation is still ongoing.
