According to The Cougar, the fraternity is accused of violating the university’s student code of conduct by engaging in hazing activities during the spring 2023 and fall 2024 semesters.
In one incident, according to a report received by The Cougar, Kappa Sigma made a prospective member run naked through the campus.
On Sept. 28, 2024, two Black women reported feeling targeted by the fraternity during one of their parties.
“As African American women, we felt disrespected, marginalized and unsafe,” said the victim in the complaint filed to the Dean of Students. “We believe no one should have to experience this.”
The victims said the fraternity made an inappropriate comment saying, “Yo pledges, why you n***** sitting on the couch?”
The report also said the fraternity made its initiating members participate in a scavenger hunt, which required the prospects to complete humiliating and degrading tasks such as challenging a “crackhead” to a dance battle, and buying pregnancy tests, kissing random girls and obtaining pornographic content.
The fraternity has since been suspended, which means they cannot participate in any on-campus events or organize events on the university’s campus.
The University Hearing Board will hear the fraternity’s case.
