Two firefighters injured battling house fire in Houston’s Timbergrove neighborhood

HOUSTON – Two Houston firefighters were injured while battling a large house fire Friday afternoon in Houston’s Timbergrove neighborhood.

The fire was reported at 4:38 p.m. on Cindy Lane in Timbergrove Manor.

Ten fire units comprising roughly 35 Houston Firefighters responded to the scene to help douse the flames.

“My dog started barking. I was actually taking a nap,” said Adam Ahmad, who lives next door to the home that caught fire. “When I came and looked through the door, I just saw black smoke and the flames were shooting so high that the tree was on fire.”

Firefighters pulled fire hose through his home in order to attack the fire from the rear, which also protecting his house.

“They took these two hoses from the front door right over here,” Ahmad said. “They tried to, you know, battle the fire and like I said earlier, saved my house.”

Two firefighters were hurt while putting out the flames. According to District Chief Valerie Seymour, one firefighter twisted his knee and the other received minor burns.

Both were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment for minor injuries and are expected to recover.

A husband, wife and child were inside the home that caught fire. They tell KPRC 2 that an AC system started blowing smoke before bursting into flames.

Their backyard abuts to the CenterPoint Energy Eureka substation.

Flames from the fire caused some minor damage to transformers, according to a CenterPoint spokesperson. Crews expect power to be restored by Saturday morning.

No other injuries were reported. An official cause of the fire remains under investigation.
