Houston woman accused of daily beatings of 4-year-old to face bond review today

A Houston woman accused of brutally beating a 4-year-old girl is set to appear in court today for a bond review.

Tameria Barnett, 30, faces charges of injury to a child after investigators allege she repeatedly assaulted a friend’s daughter, leaving the child hospitalized in critical condition.

Deputies say the 4-year-old had been living with Barnett since September while the girl’s mother was in jail.

Court documents paint a disturbing picture of the alleged abuse, stating the child was “violently” beaten daily over several months with a belt, a cord, Barnett’s hand, and an unknown object.

The young girl has been receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries at Texas Children’s Hospital since last week.

Barnett was released on a $100,000 bond following her arrest last Friday, but today’s court proceedings could alter her bond status.
