HOUSTON – The Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) has taken over collections for TxTag users.

Back in November, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced a partnership with HCTRA, stating the agency would take over toll billing and customer service operations for those who use TxDOT’s toll roads in the Houston and Austin areas.

Under the agreement, TxDOT will continue to own and maintain its toll roads in the Austin and Houston metro areas, and the Texas Transportation Commission will retain responsibility for setting toll rates on TxDOT-owned roads.

Here are TxDOT-owned roads in Houston and Austin for which the changes apply to.

Austin

  • SH 130
  • SH 45 N
  • SH 45 SE
  • Mopac/Loop 1

Houston

  • Grand Parkway
  • Hwy. 249

Those with TxTag accounts will transition to an EZ TAG account and manage their account at HCTRA.org instead of TxTag.org.

TxTag customers whose accounts are transitioned to HCTRA will be able to continue to use their TxTag. Customers whose TxTag account was not migrated or who do not have a tag, will need to get an EZ TAG to ensure they pay the lowest toll rates and avoid additional fees. Your TxTag account will be transferred to HCTRA if it’s active and in good standing, meaning you’ve had transactions and used your TxTag to pay tolls in the past 12 months, and do not have a balance due.

Those with EZ TAG’s will not need to do anything.
