Imagine this: You finish a long day at work, only to find your car—and its keys—are gone. Deputies say that’s exactly what happened to an employee of a tax service in Montgomery County on Monday.
The theft unfolds

Around 6 p.m., after meeting with a customer, the employee realized their keys, left on a desk, were gone, along with the car. The victim had a tracker on the vehicle and immediately called law enforcement.
Suspect caught in the act
Deputies with Montgomery County’s Pct. 4 Constable’s Office tracked the car down near FM 1485 and Baptist Encampment Road. When they arrived, they found the driver: 32-year-old Amber Carter of New Caney.
Carter, no stranger to trouble, was arrested on the spot. Authorities say she has a history of theft and drug-related activity.

Law enforcement responds
“She knows the consequences of her actions,” Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden said. “Thanks to the victim’s quick thinking and fast response our deputies, we were able to recover the vehicle and bring this case to a close.”
