It’s that time of year again when The Spencer Solves It team launches their Christmas Miracles Project to help needy families. This year we added to the ‘Spencer Solves It’ team, having the entire KPRC 2 family pitching in to help.

This is the ninth year in a row that Bill and his merry, band of miracle workers have gone to work to rescue Christmas for five needy families who have been through the worst year of their lives.

How does Spencer Solves It: ‘Christmas Miracles’ work?

We will surprise five families that have been through sheer hell this year and, for whatever reason, can’t afford to give their children anything for Christmas.

We’ve already spent long nights and early mornings on this project and have met some of the best people in Houston in the process.

In early November, we called for people to submit family or friends who needed help this holiday season. We received hundreds of applications. Then, all of the staff from KPRC worked together to choose the finalists.

We met two different times, breaking into groups and discussing each email. We looked for families from all over the Houston area. Discussing these stories was an eye-opener for many people. It’s heartbreaking to see the trauma and tragedy that impact so many families.

While we wish we could help every person, it would be impossible. At the end of the KPRC crew sessions, we narrowed down the list to eight families. Bill wanted to have a few backups in case one family could not participate.

Bill then called up each family to let them know about the plans for ‘Christmas Miracles’. Sure enough, we did need to use a few of the backup families chosen.

At the end of November, Bill and the team spent an entire week traveling all over the Houston area. From Highlands to Conroe, the team surprised families with bikes, gift cards and more. The KPRC team is now working to put the final touches on each of these stories so we can share them with you.

Bill’s ‘Christmas Miracles’ is set to air each night the week of December 16 at 6 p.m. You’ll meet these sweet families who for one reason or another have been through a very hard time this year.
