Motorcyclist killed in crash on Sam Houston Tollway, search underway for driver

HOUSTON – Authorities are looking for a driver involved in a crash that claimed a motorcyclist’s life along Sam Houston Tollway Tuesday morning.

According to a spokesperson for Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA), it happened around 5:30 a.m. when the motorcyclist was heading west on Sam Houston Tollway S near Blackhawk.

HCTRA officials said the rider hit a commercial vehicle’s rear, but the driver did not stay to help. Captain Anderson with Harris County Pct. 2 said the incident was being treated as a Failure to Stop and Render-Aid incident after confirming the motorcyclist died at the scene.

Traffic was backed up for hours while authorities investigated. It’s unclear exactly what caused the incident, but HCTRA says no other injuries were reported.

The roadway cleared some time after 8 a.m. but an investigation remains underway.
