NORTH HOUSTON – The search continues Sunday morning for the suspect, or suspects in a deadly shooting.
It happened just before 11:30 Saturday night. Five people were shot, including two 16-year-olds, who were killed following the shooting at what Houston Police are calling a ‘pop-up club’ off Jensen Drive and Topping Street on the city’s northside.
When police got there, they arrived to a large crowd of mostly teens at an empty business that they say was turned into some type of party. Police say a 16-year-old male died at the scene and a 16-year-old female was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital, where she later died.
Three others were also shot, including a 13-year old, who is in critical condition.
Investigators learned this party was organized through social media. They say because this was not a regulated event, or legit business, getting evidence is challenging.
“Since they’re not under any regulations, which is what causes the problems with these type of events with no regulations, there’s nothing guarding it,” says Assistant Chief Luis Menendez with HPD.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire was also at the scene. “It’s a tragedy. I feel for the families. We ought to keep them in our prayers. We lost some young people tonight that was very preventable, if they didn’t come to locations such as this,” said Mayor Whitmire.
Police are collecting evidence and asking for people who attended the event to contact the, if they have any information.
As of Sunday morning at 5 a.m., police didn’t have a suspect or vehicle description. If you have any information, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, or click here.
