19-year-old killed in Gulf Freeway hit-and-run as brother tried to stop him from crossing

Houston police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a 19-year-old on the Gulf Freeway, despite the teen’s brother’s desperate attempt to stop him from crossing.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. Monday night on the northbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway near the South Loop.

Investigators said the teen and his brother were attempting to cross the main lanes of the freeway.

According to police, the teen’s brother tried to stop him from crossing, but the 19-year-old was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The driver did not stop, and witnesses were unable to provide a description of the vehicle.

HPD said they recovered a piece of the hit-and-run driver’s vehicle at the scene, which could help identify the suspect.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene. Police diverted all northbound traffic to eastbound 610 during the investigation.
