‘Thank you Houston’: Mattress Mack walks unassisted one week after open-heart surgery

Houston icon Jim McIngvale, widely known as Mattress Mack, continues to make remarkable strides in his recovery after undergoing successful open-heart surgery last week.

McIngvale shared an update on social media, expressing gratitude for the support he has received during his recovery journey.

“Thank you God for allowing me to walk unassisted on my two feet one week after open heart surgery,” he wrote. “Thank you, Houston for your prayers, well wishes, messages, letters, and support of Gallery Furniture over the last week and as I continue to recover.”

The surgery, performed at Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, addressed a leaky mitral valve in his heart. The procedure lasted four hours and marked a crucial step in ensuring his long-term health.

McIngvale’s spokesperson previously thanked the community for their outpouring of support, asking Houstonians to keep him in their thoughts and prayers.

McIngvale’s recovery process included a weeklong hospital stay followed by an additional two to three weeks at home. His focus remains on regaining his strength while staying connected to the community he loves.
