The weather outside has been a roller coaster - from highs in the 80s to morning lows in the 40s Thursday morning.
And we’re always looking out for you - sniffles, headaches and even the flu.
Are there things you’re doing that makes the winter weather a little more miserable? Like skipping a winter jacket when the temperatures get low?
“If you’re wearing a coat then you’re able to regulate your temperatures and you won’t have these big shifts. The issue is if you don’t wear a winter coat - you can get cold air into your body easier and that way you get infection,” explained Dr. Carlos Vital from Vital Allergy & Asthma Center.
And what about skipping the blow dryer and leaving your house with wet hair? Could that make you sick? Especially in colder weather?
“Wet hair technically doesn’t cause any infections in itself. What the concern is - if you start going outside with wet hair the body has to work to stay warmer. So if you’re in the vulnerable population or have a weaker immune system - wet hair and cold weather could make you sick,” Dr. Rob Zuset a DO emergency medicine specialist explained.
And what happens if you skip your socks and boots on a cold day - a wear your flip flops. Could that make you sick?
“The cold can usually come from the soles of the feet and when the pores open up - you can get sick that way. It can cause a shock and your body can’t handle the drop in temperatures. If your body is exposed to such an intense temperature change - you can get sick from it,” explained Dr. Vital.
Both Doctors also say to be careful when eating community food especially during flu season - make sure to cover your mouth when coughing and wash your hands frequently.
