Wrong-way crash shuts down all southbound lanes of I-45 near near Quitman

The North Freeway remains closed southbound near Quitman following a wrong-way crash that killed both drivers involved, Houston police said.

The crash was reported around 2:43 a.m. when a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes collided head-on with another car, according to investigators.

According to Houston police, the driver traveling in the correct direction was a 32-year-old man heading home from work. His name has not been released.

The wrong-way driver, whose identity remains unknown, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when the collision occurred.

Houston police revealed that the family of one of the drivers involved in Thursday morning’s deadly wrong-way crash on I-45 South was notified of the incident through an alert on their phone. The family rushed to the scene after receiving the notification.

All southbound lanes of I-45 remain closed, causing significant delays and impacting the morning commute.
