‘A parent’s worst fear’: Family of missing Katy teen Alexa Jones speaks out as search efforts continue

Authorities, TexasEquusearch continue efforts to find Jones

KATY, Texas – Katy teenager Alexa Jones has been missing for more than a week, and her parents are speaking out to try to bring her home before Christmas.

The 15-year-old was last seen at around midnight in the early morning hours of Dec. 13 in the 19400 block of Otter Trail in the Plantation Lakes subdivision. She stands at 5′5″ tall and weighs around 130 pounds. When she was last seen, she was wearing a black t-shirt and gray sweatpants.

An Amber Alert was issued on her behalf last week, but Alexa has still not been found. Her family fears she might be in danger.

KPRC 2′s Corley Peel spoke with Alexa’s parents and sisters in their Katy home. They asked to remain anonymous as they discussed their last night with the missing teen.

Everybody had a really great night. We had a movie night. We had a devotional night. Everybody was talking about what they wanted to have for Christmas. It was really fun. That’s why we are so shocked,” Alexa’s mother said.

Alexa’s mother was describing the night of Dec. 12, just hours before she would sneak out of her house. The family noticed that Alexa left through the side gate, avoiding being captured by the family’s doorbell camera.

The last time I’ve heard anything about her was Sunday [Dec. 15], when she communicated with my oldest daughter via email,” Alexa’s mother said.

KPRC 2 obtained the emails Alexa sent to her sister.

“[The email] basically said, ‘I’m at Starbucks, my phone died. A stranger is letting me charge my phone and I’m going to charge it and I’m coming, but I need to clear my thoughts and I’m going to call mom and dad to come pick me up,’” said Alexa’s mother.

Alexa’s parents never got the chance to pick her up. Her mother feared that her case was not being taken seriously by local law enforcement, until the Amber Alert was finally issued seven days after the teen’s disappearance. In the days since, Alexa’s family has seen officials with Harris County’s Sheriff’s Office and Texas Equusearch working overtime to find her.

Her parents describe her as sweet and caring. They said she has a passion for photography and enjoyed helping with their family’s candle and soap business.

Here’s the message Alexa’s parents have for the missing teen:

“Please come home,” Alexa’s mother said.

Don’t worry about being in trouble. Just come home. We need you home. There’s a lot of other people that need you home,” Alexa’s father said.

They’re hoping to see her big smile in time for Christmas.

Anyone with information concerning Alexa’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Missing Persons Unit at 713-755-7427 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-847
