HOUSTON, Texas – This Christmas brought us a special treat during the halftime Christmas Day game between the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens!

The Beyoncé Bowl, a 12-minute showdown produced by hometown native Beyoncé Carter-Knowles and her company Parkwood Entertainment, along with Jesse Collins Entertainment, was nothing less than a creative, thoughtful, and historic production.

If you haven’t had a chance to see it, or even if you have, here’s a breakdown of Beyoncé's halftime performance and why it was so special:

Houston Historic Car Show

Houston is known for several things like our food, the medical center, and the space center, but aside from that, we are also known for our low-riding, slow-out-and-banging vehicles with swangers. Of course, Beyoncé had Houston rapper Slim Thug and others slabbing across the Texans’ field while she performed hit records from her country album, Cowboy Carter.

Texas Southern University

Beyoncé is known for celebrating HBCU culture and bands during her live performances, so when she brought out 200 members of TSU’s Ocean of Soul Marching Band during her live performance, true Beehive members were not surprised.

Blue Ivy Carter

Our first time seeing Beyoncé's oldest daughter hit the stage was during her iconic Renaissance World Tour, but Houston fans got another glimpse of 12-year-old Blue on Christmas Day. Alongside the TSU Ocean of Soul Band, Blue joined her mother and danced while she performed “Ya Ya” and “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

Juneteenth Horse Carriages

Several fans on X, previously known as Twitter, noticed Beyoncé referenced Juneteenth in her performance with a floral carriage, symbolizing the floral carriages that were often displayed during the early Juneteenth celebrations held in Third Ward.

Shaboozey

If you don’t know who Shaboozey is, he’s a 29-year-old country legend at an early age, becoming the first Black male artist to chart at #1 on both Billboard’s Hot 100 and Country Chart. He is also a collaborator on two Cowboy Carter tracks — “Riiverdance” and “Sweet Honey Buckiin.” He helped sing portions of both as a medley during the halftime performance.

Country Singers

While walking into the stadium from backstage, Beyoncé briefly paused, got off her stunning white horse, and joined Tanner Adell, Reyna Roberts, Brittney Spencer, and Tiera Kennedy as they performed “Blackbird.”

Tribute to Western and Rodeo Culture

Beyoncé included Mexican cowgirl Melanie Rivera, bull-riding legend Myrtis Dightman Jr., known as the “Jackie Robinson of Rodeo,” Miss Rodeo Texas Princess 2004 and Miss Rodeo Texas 2015 Nikki Woodward, and the first Black Rodeo Queen in Arkansas, Ja’Dayia Kursh—all as special guests.
