16-year-old girl’s caretaker charged with her death in north Houston

A Houston woman has been arrested in connection to the death of a 16-year-old girl. Tracy Gonzales, 48, is facing charges of injury to a disabled person with serious bodily injury.

The tragic incident happened on March 25, when Nayeli Perez was found unresponsive in her bedroom at a home on East 32nd Street in north Houston. Paramedics arrived, but Perez was pronounced dead at the scene. Initially, the cause of death wasn’t clear, but after further investigation, it was ruled a homicide.

Gonzales, who had been Perez’s caretaker, was arrested in December after police gathered enough evidence. She’s now facing charges in the 488th State District Court.
