HOUSTON – Federal investigators have returned to a northwest Harris County home registered to the suspect accused of carrying out a terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day.

The FBI did not detail why they returned to Shamsud-Din Jabbar’s home except they were “conducting law enforcement activity.”

Our cameras did spot a vehicle at the property picked up by a tow truck, but law enforcement has not shared any details about it.

This comes a day after a court-authorized FBI search was cleared and officials said there were “no threats to residents” in the area. KPRC 2 obtained video from inside Jabbar’s northwest Harris County home.

Among the items in the 42-year-old’s home was his book collection. Admittedly, it doesn’t draw any conclusions but shows a range of philosophical and religious interests. The same day, Abdur Rahem Jabbar, the suspect’s younger brother, sat down with KPRC 2 to speak about his family’s reaction to the horrifying events.

Known to family and friends as “Sham,” grew up in Beaumont, attended Central High School, and later served in the U.S. Army, including a deployment to Afghanistan. After leaving the military, he settled in Houston and worked in the tech industry.

According to his brother, Sham’s personal life included three children and two divorces, with the most recent one finalized in 2022.

His brother noted that Sham felt financially burdened by his religious obligation to continue supporting his ex-wife’s home after their separation.

“Our hearts, prayers, and thoughts go out to those families, the victims, and those who witnessed this tragedy,” he said. “This wasn’t the man I knew... This isn’t any representation of Al-Islam or Muslims or the Muslim community.”
