Man hit and killed by car while attempting to cross southbound lanes of I-45 in North Houston

HOUSTON – A person was fatally struck while crossing the southbound lanes of the North Freeway near Cavalcade Street in North Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

The crash happened at 8:34 p.m. Saturday night when the man attempted to cross the freeway from east to west, coming from the HOV lane. Investigators say this is when the individual was struck by a vehicle.

First responders with Houston Fire Department pronounced the man dead at the scene.

HPD says the driver of the vehicle stopped and stayed at the scene. Police say the driver told officers they were unable to avoid the crash because the man suddenly appeared on the roadway. Investigators say it’s unclear why the man was trying to cross the freeway.

HPD confirmed no other injuries were reported.

This incident remains under investigation. At this time, no charges have been filed.
