HOUSTON – A man shot by police after he was accused of slashing tires and breaking windows in northeast Houston died Monday morning.

It happened just before 8 a.m. when the Houston Police Department said they received reports of a man on Caddo Street near Homestead Road. breaking windows and slashing tires. When officers went to confront the unidentified man, who led them on a brief chase followed by a scuffle.
During the fight, investigators said the man tried reaching for an officer’s gun and another police officer shot him twice, killing him.

Per protocol, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted.
