Witnesses report destruction

According to police, the situation began when a woman called 911 to report a man smashing car windows at a home. The man continued down the street, damaging several other vehicles before officers arrived.

“He was just going from car to car, breaking windows. It was scary,” one neighbor said.

Police confrontation

When police arrived, they found a man matching the description provided by witnesses. Officers stated that the suspect was carrying a sharp object and fled the scene when approached. The chase ended at the intersection of Homestead Road and Betshire Drive, where the suspect reportedly engaged in a physical struggle with officers.

According to authorities, the man attempted to grab an officer’s firearm during the altercation. In response, one officer discharged his weapon twice, fatally striking the suspect.

Eyewitness reactions

Nearby business owners and residents described the scene as chaotic. Timmy’s Choice Restaurant employee recalled arriving at work to find the area swarmed with police vehicles, forcing her to close her business until after noon.

“I got here as usual for work and there were police vehicles everywhere. I kept asking, ‘What is going on?!’ Then, I learned that someone had died,” the employee said.

Official Statement

Houston Police Department officials held a brief press conference, explaining the sequence of events.

“They were trying to detain him, and there was a struggle here with all three officers. They were fighting and rolling around on the ground. At one point, the suspect was on top of the officer and had his hand on the weapon in the officer’s holster,” said an HPD spokesperson.

Next steps

Authorities confirmed that body camera footage from the incident will be released within 30 days as part of their investigation. The officers involved are currently on leave.

The case remains under review, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact HPD.
