Verlander first joined the Astros in a trade from the Detroit Tigers ahead of the MLB trade deadline in August of 2017.
He spent the next six seasons in Houston, before signing a two-year deal with the New York Mets in 2022. In August of 2023, Verlander returned to Houston in a trade, and he stayed with the Astros through the 2024 season.
Verlander was extremely prolific during his time with the Astros. He earned three All-Star selections, two All-MLB First Team selections, two World Series championships, and two AL Cy Young Awards. He also led the AL in wins and strikeouts twice.
In 2022, he was named AL Comeback Player of the Year when he led the AL in wins and ERA after missing the entire 2021 season recovering from Tommy John surgery. The Astros would also win their second World Series title in 2022.
Verlander turns 42 next month, and he will be entering his 20th MLB season.
