HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man was killed in a robbery near Spring Thursday after what was supposed to be an online sale turned deadly. At least one person is currently in custody, but the search is on for the other killer.
The Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office said it happened in the 22100 block of Bridgestone Pine Court. This is in the Bridgestone Lakes subdivision off FM 2920.
According to Sgt. Sidney Miller with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, they got the call at 3:22 p.m. and arrived to find a man unconscious in the driveway of a home.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez later identified the man as Dat Truong, 39. Neighbors say the man didn’t even have any shoes on when they found him unconscious. He was transported to Kingwood Hospital where he died.
Miller said the victim had made an arrangement to make a sale to individuals on Facebook.
“That’s definitely a dangerous business, especially at your house,” Miller said.
In the afternoon, a white car pulled up to the home with at least three people inside. Two of the passengers got out and started having a discussion with Truong. Not long afterward, a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the victim was injured which authorities believe caused his death.
Sheriff Gonzalez confirmed on X Friday morning one of Truong’s killers, Jose Soto, 17, was arrested but are still looking for the second man. Soto appeared in probable cause court Saturday morning and his bond was set at $200,000.

Video shared with KPRC 2 shows Truong being chased around a yard. He appears to be slammed to the ground, striking his head before his attackers grab onto Truong, drag him across the concrete, and go through his pockets.
“The victim sustained some injuries. Right now, we can’t tell...what type of injuries at this point,” Miller said.
We don’t know what exactly Truong was selling, but investigators say his killers were able to get away with items stolen from him.
“If you’re going to be doing selling anything online, I would recommend that you meet these people, either a police station or some type of area where there’s, you know, people around and someone there with you,” Miller said.
Soto is the only one who has been arrested so far and charged with murder, but Sheriff Gonzalez says they are actively seeking the second killer who took off in the white car with the 17-year-old.
Authorities are interviewing witnesses and looking for any cameras that might have captured the robbery.
