Houston ISD opens Pre-K applications for 2025-2026 school year

Parents in the Houston Independent School District can now apply for the district’s 2025-2026 Pre-K program. Applications officially opened on January 22, offering families the opportunity to secure a spot in HISD’s high-quality early education program.

HISD’s Pre-K program is designed to provide children with the foundational skills needed for success in kindergarten and beyond. The program features certified teachers, a well-rounded curriculum, and engaging activities that support academic, social-emotional, and cognitive development.

Who can apply?

HISD’s Pre-K program is available for children who are 3 or 4 years old by September 1 of the school year and live within the district boundaries.

Parents can choose from tuition-free options for eligible families or explore tuition-based options for those who don’t meet the criteria.

How to apply

Parents can begin their Pre-K application by visiting the HISD School Choice website or contacting their nearest school. Families can also utilize the district’s School Finder tool to locate their closest HISD campus offering Pre-K. Required documents include:

  • Proof of residence
  • A child’s birth certificate
  • Immunization records
  • Parent or guardian ID

HISD offers Pre-K at various locations, including elementary campuses with zoned and magnet programs, Pre-K partnerships with select childcare centers, and Early Childhood Centers (ECCs) focused on early learning.
