ALIEF, Texas – Authorities are looking into what caused a driver to crash his truck into an Alief swimming pool just after midnight Wednesday.

It’s unclear what factors played a role in the crash, but Houston police said the driver, an unidentified man, was speeding on Boone Road between Bellaire Boulevard and Beechnut Street in Little Saigon and veered off into another lane.

From there, investigators said the driver then hit a curb causing him to crash through a homeowner’s fence, and a tree before landing in a community swimming pool on Triola Lane.

Lt. Willkens with HPD said a sergeant at the scene jumped into the pool to try and rescue the driver inside but to no avail. A dive team was then called to recover the man’s body.

No additional information has been shared, as of this writing, but HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division was called to investigate and will share more details when they’re available.
