It happened around 1 a.m. when Lt. Ali with the Houston Police Department said initial reports were an unidentified man was seen breaking into vehicles at an apartment complex on Bagby and Webster Street. One of the vehicle owners, along with his friends, confronted the man and a fight broke out.

At some point, Lt. Ali said the burglar took out a gun and started shooting, killing the man who confronted him, 21, and hurting one of his friends, 22, who was hit in the arm.

Police were only able to give a vague description of the gunman saying he stood about 5′8″ with dreadlocks that had gold or yellow tips.

Neighbors in the area, tell KPRC 2′s Joy Addison that break-ins are not uncommon but have gotten increasingly worse, especially with the lack of adequate parking.

“It’s honestly been like this for a long time,” one resident said. “But I would say that the amount of cars is abundant of all varieties and you have no choice but to park them on the side of the streets because there is the parking situation is bad.”

“They typically go in the primary areas and I see them and sometimes it’s during the week, which I think it needs to be more so in the odd hours of the evening, and especially when there’s a lot of people that should be increased,” the resident continued.

An investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
