Confession follows search warrant execution at residence

A La Porte man, Ryan Rhett Cooper, is facing serious charges related to the possession and promotion of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

According to court documents, the case emerged following a Cyber Tip from the messaging platform “KIK,” which reported that 23 files depicting illegal content were uploaded to an account linked to Cooper.

Further examination of the “KIK” account showed communications between Cooper and another user, discussing inappropriate activities involving children. Cooper admitted to using the application to download and view illegal content for personal gratification. He also confessed to deleting the application and files after viewing them.

A search warrant executed at Cooper’s home led to his confession, and no additional illegal material was found on devices at the residence.

Residents of the neighborhood tell KPRC 2 Cooper had been involved as a coach for area sports teams.

“I know for a fact he has coached, wanted to continue to coach. We heard from some very close friends that it got a little strange at times. His actions,” said Clayton Malcolm.

They also said they had witnessed Cooper filming with a GoPro camera during baseball practices.

The case is being handled by the 263rd District Court in Texas, with Cooper facing charges related to child exploitation.
