20-year-old Pasadena man died from gunshot wounds, officials say

HOUSTON – One day after the body of missing 20-year-old Payas Deo was discovered, medical examiners determined his cause of death.

Medical examiners say the Pasadena man died from gunshot wounds to the head and neck area. They also ruled his death a homicide.

Deo, a University of Houston Clear Lake student, left his home in The Reserve at Clear Lake around 8 p.m. on the evening of Feb. 8, according to his family. When he pulled out of the driveway of their Peony Meadow Trail home, he would not be heard from or seen again.

Texas EquuSearch and the Pasadena Police Department searched for Deo after he was reported missing.

Last Saturday, Deo’s body was found in southeast Houston near Dumas Street, according to Pasadena Police.

There will be a gathering to remember Payas on Thursday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m. located at 5837 El Dorado Boulevard in Houston. Attendees are asked to wear white.

On Wednesday, PPD released the following update:

“We have established a dedicated Task Force, bringing together investigators from various specialized units within our department to support this investigation. While we are currently investigating several leads, we are also awaiting DNA evidence to return from being processed which was found at the location Deo’s body was recovered.  We are currently working with the Houston Police Department and the Pasadena Police Department will be the lead agency conducting the investigation.  The Medical Examiner has ruled Deo’s death as a “homicide” with the cause of death as “gunshot.”

While this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we remain steadfast in our commitment to investigating this case, which remains our top priority.”
