1 dead after crash involving wrong-way driver on Houston’s South Loop

One person has died after being involved in a three-vehicle car collision on the South Loop.

The crash was reported just after 5 p.m. on IH-610 near Braeswood Boulevard.

Houston Police say a black Hyundai Tucson was driving the wrong way on the highway at the time of the crash. In an update, police say the driver going the wrong way died in the crash.

A 32-year-old woman and her two children—ages six and five—were in a black Volkswagen Atlas that was involved in the crash. They were taken to a hospital after the wreck and are all expected to survive.

A third vehicle, a gray Chevrolet Trax, swerved out of the way to avoid the crash and struck a barricade on the right shoulder. The driver of this vehicle was also hospitalized but is expected to survive.

It is unclear if drugs or alcohol may have played a factor in the crash.
