KATY, Texas – Two people were shot after a fight between two groups of people erupted in gunfire at a McDonald’s near Katy Sunday, one of whom died.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said it happened at the McDonalds on Fry Road, near the intersection of W. Little York. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the two groups, who were all possibly teenagers, got into a fight, at which point gunfire erupted.

At the scene, Lt. Dennis Wolfford said a group of seven to eight men and women walked into the restaurant around 5:25 p.m. and appeared to be ordering food when another group of two to three other men showed up and a fight broke out. Wolfford said the people all appeared to be between the ages of 16 and 20-years-old.
Wolfford said gunshots were fired both inside and outside the restaurant. One of the patrons, later identified by Sheriff Gonzalez as Jorge Arbaiza, 61, was inside the restaurant and was shot multiple times. Another 26-year-old man was shot as he attempted to exit the McDonald’s. He then ran to a nearby Waffle House.
The two groups of people got into two separate vehicles, a maroon-colored SUV and a white sedan, and fled the scene.
Arbaiza was flown by helicopter to a hospital, where Sheriff Gonzalez later said he died from his injuries. The 26-year-old man was taken by ambulance and is in serious condition, but is expected to survive. It is unclear whether the 26-year-old man was involved in the fight or not at this time.
“Its amazing that only two people were hit in this incident,” Wolffard said, describing the incident as quick and chaotic.
