From rodeo to ranch: Anthony Thomas’ journey from bronc riding to beef business

Horses have been a significant part of rodeo cowboy Anthony Thomas’ life, but he’s nearing the point of hanging up his spurs.

After years of competing, Thomas is contemplating his next steps.

“I qualified for the American, a $1 million rodeo,” Thomas shared. “It’s every cowboy’s dream to win a million bucks on the back of a bucking horse.”

Thomas’ journey began in Australia, where he ran away from home at a young age.

He found his calling at a cattle station in Northwest Australia, surrounded by wild cattle and horses. Inspired by an ‘80s movie featuring Luke Perry, Thomas dreamed of becoming an American rodeo cowboy.

He pursued this dream, eventually ranking in the top 40 of bronc riders worldwide. Now, at 37, Thomas is ready to chase a new passion.

“It takes a little longer to heal, and you’re not as fast as you used to be,” he said.

With a fulfilling rodeo career behind him, Thomas has turned his attention to a farm-to-table beef business in Houston.

“I put together this idea to raise homegrown Angus beef and bring it to people in the city,” Thomas explained.

His goal is to educate consumers about the origins of their beef and provide a product free of chemicals. As Thomas transitions from equine to bovine, he’s excited about his new venture.

“Praise God, it’s been wildly successful since I’ve been rodeo,” he said. While the spurs are going up, the grill is about to be fired up.
