The victim, a 41-year-old man, has yet to be officially identified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Authorities haven’t identified how Amaya and the victim were related.

According to HPD Homicide Division detectives, officers responded to a call at an apartment complex where they discovered a man with a gunshot wound outside and another unresponsive man inside the apartment. The latter was pronounced dead by Houston Fire Department paramedics, while the wounded individual was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Witness statements and further investigation identified Amaya as a suspect. Evidence indicated that Amaya and the unidentified suspect arrived and fled the scene in a white full-size SUV.

Amaya was arrested later that morning at a family member’s home, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office subsequently filed charges against him.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the second suspect or the vehicle to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 713-222-TIPS.
