Man charged with murdering brother after argument in SE Houston

Charges have been filed against a man who allegedly shot and killed his brother during a disagreement.

Juan Antonio Meza Cruz, 31, was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in the 7500 block of Manning Lane around 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19. Meza Cruz faces a murder charge.

The identity of the 28-year-old victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, but HPD officials confirmed that the victim was Meza Cruz’s brother.

According to HPD Homicide Division detectives, patrol officers responded to a shooting at the residence and discovered an unresponsive man with multiple gunshot wounds in the driveway. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

Further investigation and witness statements revealed that Meza Cruz shot and killed his brother following an argument. It’s unclear what the fight was about.

Officers quickly gathered information on Meza Cruz’s whereabouts, leading to his arrest shortly thereafter. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted, and Meza Cruz was subsequently charged and booked into the Harris County Jail.
