‘Pillar of the community’: Disabled father of 5 stabbed to death at SW Houston office building

HOUSTON – Family members have identified the man who was found dead in his office in a southwest Houston office building off Harwin Road on Wednesday.

Houston Police said 34-year-old Abdul Niazi’s death was a homicide and he had some kind of trauma to his body. On Thursday, police confirmed to KPRC 2′s Corley Peel Niazi was stabbed to death.

Abdul Niazi, 34, was a husband and father to five children who was known as a “pillar” in the Houston Afghan community. Before coming to the United States, Niazi fought with the Afghan Marines alongside U.S. forces in Afghanistan. He would end up losing his legs in battle and used a motorized wheelchair for the remainder of his life.

Niazi owns Hewad Multi-Services LLC, a business where he helps the Afghan community with immigration services. On Wednedsay, tragedy struck. Niazi’s cousin, Rizwanullah Niazi, told Corley that Niazi’s wife tried calling her husband at his office, but a different man answered his phone, allegedly admitting he killed Niazi.

“He picked up the phone and said, ‘I killed your husband, please forgive me,’ said Rizwanullah Niazi.

His cousin said Niazi’s client showed up for an appointment and found him on the ground, stabbed to death. The man accused of admitting to killing Niazi was Masiullah Sahil, 37, according to court records.

Caution tape remained on the door of Niazi’s office on Thursday.

Houston Police announced Thursday an arrest had been made in the case. Sahil is charged with murder.

Niazi’s cousin said they know of Sahil, but not on a personal level. Their family has no idea why anyone would want to hurt Niazi. They are hoping for justice.

“I don’t have words. I mean, how can someone do that? To a guy who doesn’t have any legs and he has five kids. So how can how can you become an animal and do something to a guy like that?” said Rizwanullah Niazi.

Niazi leaves behind his wife and five children, ages 2 to 10 years old.

A GoFundMe has been set up for Niazi’s family.
