Dickinson police officer dies following medical emergency

DICKINSON, Texas – A longtime Dickinson police officer has died following a medical emergency, the department announced.

Officer Chris McCollum died Friday, Dec. 12, after suffering a medical emergency, according to the Dickinson Police Department.

McCollum dedicated more than three decades to public service. He began his career as a firefighter with the Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department in January 1988 before joining the Dickinson Police Department in 1993. He initially served as a jailer and dispatcher and later became a sworn police officer.

During his more than 32 years in law enforcement, McCollum served in several roles, including patrol officer, field training officer, TCOLE instructor, officer in charge, intoxylizer operator, non-lethal weapons instructor and firearms instructor.

The department described McCollum as a dedicated public servant who served the community with professionalism and integrity, noting his lasting impact on the department and the city.

The Dickinson Police Department extended condolences to McCollum’s family, friends and fellow first responders.

Visitation for Officer McCollum is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m. at Arcadia First Baptist Church in Santa Fe. Burial and honors will follow at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin.
