HOUSTON, Texas – In a new video shared by the Houston Police Department and Mayor John Whitmire, city officials announced a stepped-up law enforcement effort aimed at improving safety on Houston’s roadways. The initiative comes as part of broader efforts to curb reckless driving, road rage and speeding across the city.
While the video itself outlines details of the enforcement push, the department is focusing patrols on high-traffic corridors, including Interstate 610 and other major freeways where complaints about aggressive driving have been increasing.
What Drivers Can Expect
According to city officials, increased traffic patrols will include:
Heightened police presence on Westheimer Road, Almeda Road, and North Shepherd Road starting today and ending Thursday.
Mayor Whitmire and Houston Police Department leadership say the goal is to make Houston streets safer for all drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.
Officials say these efforts are partly in response to complaints from residents about unsafe driving patterns and a desire among the public for a more visible police presence on Houston’s busiest roads.
