HOUSTON – An 18-wheeler fire from Thursday morning still has part of the Gulf Freeway at Bay Area shut down 24 hours later.
Three southbound lanes on I-45 at Bay Area Boulevard remain shut down. It’s not clear when all of the lanes will be reopened, but crews are still working to clear debris from the fire.
On Thursday, our SKY 2 helicopter was over the fire, which shut down the Gulf Freeway for several hours on Thursday morning.
Video showed large flames coming from the 18-wheeler that was carrying 9,000 gallons of gasoline.
It’s still unclear what sparked the fire, but luckily, there were no injuries.
Drivers are still advised to take alternate routes, as traffic may be backed up this morning due to the lane closures.
