Homeowner shot and killed during reported burglary in west Houston

Police say suspect charged with murder in Memorial area residential break-in

HOUSTON – A homeowner was shot in killed during a reported burglary at a Memorial area residence on Saturday morning.

The Houston Police Department said the call dropped around 12:30 a.m. as a burglary in progress in the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road.

A caller told police they heard glass breaking and called their spouse to come home. An altercation ensued, according to police, which led to gunfire. A homeowner and the suspect were both shot and taken to a hospital.

Police said the homeowner died, and the suspect has been charged with murder. There were multiple people inside the home at the time of the incident.

A man who knew the homeowner spoke with KPRC 2 News reporter T.J. Parker, saying the victim was his pastor.
