CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas – A suspect wanted for allegedly shooting a man and taking his vehicle in East Texas and is also believed to be connected to an incident where a vehicle matching the truck’s description was found burning with a body inside in Chambers County is now in custody.

The Sabine County Sheriff’s Office says Todd Stevens was captured and taken into custody Monday evening in Oklahoma.
Stevens is accused of shooting Cody Thompson in Sabine County on Sunday before taking his vehicle, described as a 1990s model Chevrolet extended cab pickup. Deputies in Chambers County later discovered a burning pickup truck matching the description of the truck taken by the suspect underneath the Trinity River bridge. A body was also discovered inside the truck.
The identity of the person found dead inside the truck has not been confirmed at this time.
“Todd Stevens has active felony warrants for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon related to the shooting of Thompson, with the potential for upgraded charges as the investigation continues. Stevens will also face charges in Chambers County,” the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sabine County Sheriff’s Office said Stevens will remain in custody in Oklahoma until he is extradited back to Sabine County.
More details are expected to be released Tuesday.
